Del Mar’s Bing Crosby Series Produces Exhilarating Horse Racing Every Fall
The Bing Crosby Season is a brief season of thoroughbred horse racing that usually takes place during the month of November at the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club. If you’re planning to vacation in San Diego during that time, or if you’re in town on business, you should make time to attend a day of races at the Del Mar Fairgrounds in the oceanside city of Del Mar. A day at the racetrack is a fun, family friendly experience. Witness the beauty and grace of magnificent thoroughbred horses in a heart-pounding sprint to the finish line! You can even pick your favorites before the race starts and place a wager … if you’re feeling lucky.
Located about 20 miles north of downtown San Diego, the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club is one of the nation’s best horse racing tracks. Not only is the club well known for its majestic equines, but it’s also a chic spot for celebrities and SoCal’s social elite. Much like the annual Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs, a weekend at Del Mar frequently produces throngs of spectators with colorful suits, bowties, derby hats, sun dresses and fascinators.
The entire racing facility is beautifully designed and allows everyone to get close to the action. San Diego’s sunny skies and pleasant weather afford guests the choice of watching the races from either outside or inside.
Holiday Bowl in San Diego is a College Football Classic
San Diego is home to one of college football’s most exciting contests, the Holiday Bowl. If you’ve ever wanted to experience big-time college football – or if your team is playing in the game – we have a fine selection of vacation rentals near the stadium and close to all the action. Don’t fight massive crowds (and the other team’s fans) at a busy hotel. Instead, enjoy the privacy and sanctity of your own accommodations before and after the game.
For years, the Holiday Bowl was held at SDCCU Stadium, but it was moved to Petco Park for the 2021 game under a new, five-year agreement. Petco Park, home of the San Diego Padres, will be readjusted for pigskin play at the Holiday Bowl. Located in beautiful downtown San Diego, the game generates lots of excitement in the city’s core. You can pre-game at one of the many local restaurants, pubs and taverns, then enjoy the game. Afterward, you can celebrate a victory or drown your sorrows with like-minded fans there, or you can retreat to your exclusive vacation rental for a more private affair.

About Point Loma
Surrounded by water on three sides, Point Loma is one of San Diego’s most distinctive neighborhoods. The hilly seaside neighborhood is bordered on the south and west by the Pacific Ocean, to the north by the San Diego River, and to the east by Old Town and San Diego Bay.
Point Loma – along with the Silver Strand/Coronado peninsula – defines San Diego Bay and separates it from the ocean. The term “Point Loma” is used for the area that includes both the neighborhood and the peninsula. The area has a population of around 48,000 including Ocean Beach and covers roughly 4,400 acres. The west side of the peninsula has sheer sandstone cliffs that line the ocean, called Sunset Cliffs. On the north side of the peninsula the cliffs and hills become lower, disappearing entirely near Ocean Beach. [Read more…]
